今天，我们对波希的生平了解不多，仅知道1488年波希成为独立画师，居住在塞文托亨博斯城。波希的画风平整细腻，以现实生活为依据，融进画家本人的幻想，用各种怪诞的形象和奇异的画面来影射教会和当时的社会。

在希罗尼穆斯·波希的绘画中我们可以看到各种妖魔鬼怪，荒诞离奇的组合，灾难四起的恐怖景象以及人类的种种罪恶。波希的作品无疑反映了当时的社会生活和矛盾，同时也是波希个人情感的流露，表现了人的情欲被压抑后的宣泄。

波希具有高度的造型能力，他的作品反映出尼德兰画家对细节的偏爱，对风景描写的重视。波希的代表作有三联画《人间乐园》《圣安东尼的诱惑》(1505年)、《愚人船》(1500年). 《干草车》等。
